Parco Sommerso di Gaiola

Yet more ways to combine the sea and archaeology: the underwater park at Gaiola is Italy's smallest marine protected area, but very special. Lots of archaeology, both underwater and on land. The friendly team who work at the Centro Studi Interdisciplinari Gaiola are a mix of biologists and archaeologists.
I've been meaning to blog about them for a while, but finally remembered to do so because they've just bought a glass-bottomed boat - yes, that's right: another way to see underwater archaeology without getting wet!

Info e prenotazioni: 0815754465 (mar-giov-sab; 10-14); info[at]gaiola.org

But for those who do want to swim, there are plenty of opportunities including snorkeling and diving tours.

Finally, for those of you who are land-based the very good news is that the adjacent Pausilypon archaeological park and the Grotta di Seiano have finally reopened - you can book your own visit or the Gaiola people can take you round.
