Living in the outback of Western Australia we cannot get access to good libraries of Pompeii material.
We have had a request for the CIL number or AE or other reference for the inscription on the plaque on Tomb 17 ES at Porta Nocera: Tomb of C. Cuspius Cyrus, C. Cuspius Salvius and Vesuia Iucunda on the South East side of the Via delle Tombe.
The inscription is
C CUSPIO CYRO
MAG PAG AUG FEL SUB URB
VESUVIAE IUCUNDAE UXOR
C CUSPIO C L SALVIO
MAG PAG AUG FEL SUB URB
The tomb was excavated 1955 and the details were published in Un Impegno per Pompeii by Dott d'Ambrosio in 1983. We have had a look at our copy but there is no CIL quoted.
With these dates we assume any CIL would be in a supplement, and presumably be CIL X rather than CIL IV.
Can you help please.
many thanks

Hi -
Unfortunately none of the inscriptions from the tombs at Porta Nuceria have been published in the CIL. Some are in AE, but only a few of them. I am quite sure this is not one of them, and only appears in Un Impegno per Pompei.
In future, if you need to find inscriptions, try searching the database on www.manfredclauss.de/gb/index.html
If its any additional help, Castren (1983) lists this inscription as PN E 17 (Porta Nocera, East, #17) after Eschebach's (1970) enummerations.
