Anyone interested in the traditional culture of the Vesuvian area must make sure they see Marcello Colasurdo in concert. He's the last of the traditional singers from Vesuvius (rather than Naples or the province) and many of the songs talk about Vesuvius and living in the Naples area, with a selection of other music from across southern Italy. He is an amazing live presence.
His next concert is 12 November 2009 in Caserta at the Kingston Club (San Nicola La Strada).
To give you a small sample (obviously it can't compare to being their live) here's a home video from Colasurdo's concerto in Ercolano last year - the dancers are all members of the audience who got up to join in!
