The sewer exit at the Porta Marina

In January Eric Poehler posted a request to locate the sewer exit to the south of the Porta Marina. We have taken this long distance shot from the exit from the site below the Porta Marina.

It is located on the south side of the Porta Marina in the city wall below the stairs leading to the Garden/ Lararia of the Pompeianisti.

We tried to take a closer picture but were refused access on two occasions.

We hope this helps.

Bravo and thank you Jackie and Bob! Close comparison of the image you have uploaded with the Eschebach photo shows an identifying clump of sarno stone on the under side of the cut-through arch in both images. I doubted Eschebach's caption as being south of the gate for a couple of reasons, not least because G. Jansen (2002) cited Manderscheid (1993) in connecting the Suburban baths to the via Marina sewer. Now that this sewer opening has been located south of the Porta Marina a number of new questions pop up. Is this outlet connected to the same sewer beneath via di Marina? Is these another sewer that is draining the area of the Temple of Venus?

I'm looking forward to following up on these new questions!

Cheers,

Eric
