The Herculaneum Centre, thanks to the generous support of the Friends of Herculaneum Society, is once again able to offer an award for research to be carried out on a subject related to Herculaneum in 2012. The award of £1,000 is intended to support travel to and time spent at the archaeological site of Herculaneum and is open to students registered on a post-graduate university programme.

David Gill awarded the 2012 AIA Outstanding Public Service Award
It's not strictly Pompeii-related, but I want to spread the news that David Gill, one of my colleagues at Swansea, will be the 2012 recipient of the Archaeological Institute of America’s (AIA) Outstanding Public Service Award. The award recognises David's "ongoing efforts to educate both professional archaeologists and the public at large on the threats posed by the international antiquities trade".

British School at Rome awards
The British School at Rome offers residential awards in the humanities for research in the archaeology, history, art history, society and culture of Italy from prehistory to the modern period.

Friends of Herculaneum research award
A second research award is available from the Friends of Herculaneum:
An award of up to £1000 plus travel expenses is offered to registered students both in the UK and abroad. Applications, consisting of a letter of application, a 1-2 page description of the project, and at least one letter of recommendation, should reach the Society's office by 15 October 2009 (The Herculaneum Society, The Ioannou Centre for Classical and Byzantine Studies, 66 St. Giles, Oxford OX1 3LU).

Herculaneum research award / Bando di ricerca su Ercolano
The International Centre for the Study of Herculaneum, thanks to the generous support of the Friends of Herculaneum Society, is once again able to offer an award for research to be carried out on a subject related to Herculaneum in 2009-2010. The award of £1,000 is intended to support travel to and time spent at the archaeological site of Herculaneum, Italy, and is open to students registered on a post-graduate university programme.

The Hague June 2009 - Each year, Europa Nostra and the European Union reward the best of cultural heritage achievements. Through our European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards, we celebrate excellence and dedication by architects, craftsmen, volunteers, schools, local communities, heritage owners and media. Through the power of their example we stimulate creativity and innovation.
The awards celebrate exemplary restorations and initiatives of the many facets of Europe’s cultural heritage in categories ranging from the restoration of monuments and buildings, their adaptation to new uses, to urban and rural landscape rehabilitation, archaeological site interpretations, and care for art collections. Also awarded are research and education projects, dedicated service to heritage conservation by individuals and organisations, and education and awareness raising initiatives related to cultural heritage. Every year, up to six monetary awards of €10.000 each are awarded to the top laureates in the various categories.
